Wrap-up on the watches & practice with storyboarding

We met at the FabLab again this week. It was awesome to see out watches finally come together. In the last class we laser cut the watch parts as well as designed the watch face. During this class we learned how to code an Arduino Uno board to count the number of curls/twists through a tilt sensor. We were directed how to assemble the final parts as well as test out the software. This was my first time ever coding! I have had an amazing time at the Fab Lab learning all sorts of new skillsets. I will be coming back to use the resources and staff!

After we completed out watches we got together with our project groups. In our groups we story boarded aspects of our product. We started by creating a profile for Ryan. Then we created a story board of what happens when Ryan goes into the rain in his power chair. Finally how other power chair users will hear about the product.

This week a few of my team members and I were able to meet with Dr. Mcdonagh. We got some great insight as well as encouragement. I plan on making a mood board to show Ryan to get a better understanding of his aesthetic taste and desired direction.

  1. Hi Isabella!
I love your watch design. I think you used great use of the raster setting in the laser etcher and I wish I would have been more decorative with my own design after seeing yours. I also think your idea of creating a mood board will be really helpful to create an empathetic design with your prototype. Good luck!

  2. Hey Isabella,

I think you did a fantastic job on your watch design. It is really visually appealing and makes the watch much cooler. You took a really creative approach to your design which is very impressive to me. Overall great job on the post!

  3. Hi Bella,

I really like your design of the face of the watch! I focused solely on the users and how to make it easier for them to understand the watch and its use but I like how you focused on making it visually appealing. Looking back at it, I wish I also would have incorporated better design along with what I had to not only make it functional, but also visually appealing. I think these two are important design factors that should be considered in a product development, and we should definitely try to incorporate both factors for our team product.

I haven’t really heard of a mood board before, so I dug around Google a bit to see what it is about. It sounds very interesting, evoking emotions of the users and seeing how they would react to the certain design of the product and so on. I haven’t really thought of engaging the emotional aspect of the user for the product that we are creating, so I think this will be very helpful. I am looking forward to what you come up with for Ryan! I will definitely try my best to help you out with the mood boards but since I don’t have any experience with it whereas you do, I am looking forward to learning it from you!

  4. Hello Isabella,

I really like your design of the watch face and your team’s storyboard. The watch looks visually appealing, but I just don’t understand how the face of the watch can indicate whether the person is doing twist or curl because when the person is doing a twisting movement, the watch face needs to be turned 90 degrees. In terms of the storyboard, I really like your drawing as well as your plan of product. The one thing I would suggest is to turn the image of your storyboard by 270 degrees clockwise so that we can read your storyboard easier.
